## AirPods Max 2: No Imminent Arrival on Apple’s Horizon
Following the recent AirPods Max refresh in September, speculation about a second-generation model is circulating. However, a recent report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicates that Apple currently has no significant plans for a substantial AirPods Max update in the near future. Gurman stated that Apple intends to maintain the current AirPods Max in its present form for the foreseeable future.
## Incremental Upgrades, Not a Generational Leap
The September update brought two key changes to the AirPods Max: the transition to USB-C charging and the introduction of new colorways. Conspicuously absent was the integration of Apple’s H2 chip, which powers features like Adaptive Audio in the AirPods Pro 2. This omission also means the AirPods Max lacks any enhancements to its active noise cancellation capabilities. Consequently, the AirPods Max continues to utilize the H1 chip, first introduced in 2019, while retaining its $549 price point.
## Sluggish Sales Impacting Development?
Gurman suggests that underwhelming AirPods Max sales figures may be a contributing factor to Apple’s decision to hold back on further development. The limited market demand seemingly doesn’t justify allocating significant resources to a new generation. Therefore, those anticipating an AirPods Max 2 with substantial improvements should temper their expectations for the time being. The focus appears to be on maintaining the current model rather than investing in a complete overhaul.
