Coinciding with the iPhone 16’s launch, Apple’s iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are now available for all users, following their initial unveiling at WWDC on June 10th and subsequent beta testing. This highly anticipated update, arriving just in time for the new iPhone, brings a wealth of enhancements beyond the forthcoming Apple Intelligence.
Experience a redesigned Photos app, enjoy expanded Home Screen personalization (farewell, rigid grid!), and explore new icon tinting options. Enhanced communication arrives with the integration of RCS messaging.
Updating to iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 is simple: navigate to Settings on your device, then proceed to General and select Software Update. If iOS 18 isn’t immediately visible, choose the option at the top of the screen to select between iOS 17 and iOS 18. Be aware that initial installation times might be longer than usual due to high demand.
As always, creating an iCloud backup of your essential data, including photos and videos, is strongly recommended before any software update.
Apple Intelligence Arriving Soon
While Apple Intelligence is the flagship feature of iOS 18, it won’t be available in this initial release. Optimized for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro, Apple Intelligence will be rolled out later this year, empowering users with features such as live transcription, advanced writing tools, generative image creation, and more.
iOS 18 also introduces crucial safety features like Messages Via Satellite, Emergency SOS Live Video, and Roadside Assistance via Satellite, enhancing user security in critical situations.
Apple Intelligence will debut with iOS 18.1 and subsequent updates starting in October, initially supporting U.S. English. December will see expanded English language support in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. Further localization for Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish is planned for 2024.
