Apple’s Time Capsule: iPhone XS Max and Other Devices Enter Tech’s Hall of History

## Apple Designates iPhone XS Max and 6s Plus as Vintage, Series 2 Apple Watch as Obsolete

Apple has updated its list of vintage and obsolete products, officially classifying the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus as vintage globally. This designation, applied five years after a product is no longer sold by Apple, signifies a shift in the company’s support policies. While repairs may still be possible through Apple or authorized service providers, they are contingent on parts availability. It’s worth noting that the 32GB configuration of the iPhone 6s Plus was previously declared obsolete. Interestingly, the standard iPhone XS and iPhone 6s have yet to receive the vintage classification.

## Apple Watch Series 2 Reaches End-of-Life Support

In a further update to its product lifecycle, Apple has declared the aluminum and stainless steel versions of the Apple Watch Series 2 obsolete. This classification, reserved for products seven years after their discontinuation, effectively ends official repair support from Apple and authorized service providers. The sole exception to this policy remains MacBook battery replacements, which are offered for up to ten years. Notably, the ceramic edition of the Series 2 Apple Watch has not yet been added to the obsolete list. This staggered approach to obsolescence underscores the complexities of managing product lifecycles for devices with varying material compositions.
