## WhatsApp Unveils On-Device Voice Message Transcription
Meta’s ubiquitous messaging platform, WhatsApp, has launched a new functionality allowing users to transcribe voice messages directly within the app. This feature, announced via the WhatsApp blog, aims to provide a convenient alternative to listening to audio messages, particularly in noisy environments. The transcription process occurs locally on the user’s device, ensuring end-to-end encryption and preventing WhatsApp from accessing the content.
### Enabling and Using Transcriptions
Activating this feature is straightforward. Users can navigate to Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcripts to toggle the functionality on or off, and select their preferred language for transcription. To transcribe a specific voice message, users simply long-press the message and tap the “transcribe” option.
### Global Rollout and Supported Languages
While beta testers have had access to this feature for some time, the global rollout to all WhatsApp users is commencing, with worldwide availability expected in the coming weeks.
